Mike
Bunn is possibly Ireland's best-known contemporary photographer. The book was a major catalyst to the introduction of Ireland's gastronomic resurgence, County House revival and provided a sensitive new look at the country’s generous beauty. In the words of Sunday Independent deputy editor and former editor of ‘Image’ Magazine, Anne Harris, "Looking at a Mike Bunn picture is an aesthetic experience. Whether it's food, clothes or beauty, he gets the juices flowing. He makes you crave it. Nobody photographs food and landscape like him. He photographs food like Renaissance art — he makes it look lusty." "If ever Ireland had a kind and compassionate lover, it's Mike Bunn. There has never been a more loving eye on Ireland than Mike’s. He taught us to love what we held in contempt. What we did not value, he was mystified by. He made us realise what a beautiful country we have — the life, the food, the countryside. One thing all those who speak about Mike agree on is that the man could find beauty in a toad. I don't think Mike Bunn is capable of taking a shot that isn't beautiful. He sees beauty in the most extraordinary things."(see Food/Organic Growth) Over a 25 year period Mike has worked with some very prestigious clients in the travel, fashion, advertising and publishing worlds for which he has won many awards. (see Client List) "He created a new image of Ireland: handsome rugged men in tweed, very handsome-looking women with fresh faces and beautiful skin. Traditional Irish companies suddenly found themselves hip and credible." (see Fashion/Beauty) Mike is a classical photographer in the true sense of the word and insists that the craftsmanship of photography, that he holds so dearly, must and always be wedded to advances in technology rather like the old fiddle playing new tunes. Mike’s work does this effortlessly and seamlessly illustrating his life’s addiction and passion for this medium. Mike is now based in Carrick-on- Shannon, where he runs a state-of-the-art studio and post-production office. (see Arrow Productions) According to
Anne Harris, “He's still the best photographer
in the country, and has been for the last 20 years." |
